I’ve spent the last 2 ½ years building and operating Demand Food. Here’s what I've been up to since Demand Food closed:
I packed up all my belongings in a storage unit in Austin and hit the road. My first stop was Michigan, then it was off to Canada and down the East Coast, hitting cities like Niagara Falls, Montreal, Portland, Salem, Boston, New York, DC, northern Virginia and then back again to New York (my favorite city of the tour). I spent almost a month straight staying in different Airbnb's and it was an amazing experience. Traveling is not only something I enjoy, but it also pushes me out of my comfort zone, which helps me grow as a person, both personally and professionally.
As much as I'm hungry to keep traveling and meeting new people, I'm eager to get back to the hustle and grind mode. My attention is now on my next career move. My goal is to join a team in which my interests and skills are aligned and where I will continue to grow, learn and develop while contributing to something bigger than myself. My biggest passions are travel, health and fitness, and environmental conservation and sustainabilty. Ultimately, I want to help build a future in which I want to live.
My first job out of college. Overall it was good experience working in a large, bureaucratic environment, however, my ambitions eventually outgrew my role at the agency. I was part of the Petroleum Storage Tank team from Oct 2011 – Feb 2012 and part of the Public Drinking Water Protection team at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality from Feb 2012 – Jun 2013. I worked with individual water systems to get them in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. I gathered and reviewed case materials and data to prepare non-compliant investigations for legal enforcement. I wrote SOPs, trained new team members, and completed administrative tasks. Software and tools I frequently used include CCEDS, SDWIS databases, PITS, PST Databases, Business Objects XI, the TCEQ Central Registry and the Texas Secretary of State website.
My first remote, independently managed job. I learned so much when I started consulting. It was a huge (and welcome) change from working in the micro-managed government sphere. It taught me invaluable skills, like time and project management and how to problem solve and find solutions on my own. I built loyal relationships with clients in which I designed, developed and maintained their company websites. Additionally, I worked with the clients on their marketing goals, designing and developing advertising materials. I also managed Sharpup finances. Software and tools I frequently used included PHP, HTML, CSS, FTP, WordPress, Photoshop, Mailchimp, WaveApps, etc. Clients included Eaton Rapids Medical Center, Island City Assisted Living, Party Armor, B-WARM, Fitness 360, Spartan Water, Oakland Helping Hands, and Oakland Home Care.
My biggest accomplishment yet. Our goal was to make getting healthy food more convenient than fast food. We created nutritionally balanced meals and delivered them on-demand during lunch and dinner hours with a single tap of a button. New meals, salads, soups, drinks, and dessert options were added daily. On-demand and pre-ordering options available. Track your meal delivery with live GPS (think Uber). Started as a web app, then moved over to Android and Apple mobile apps. Raised $400k from investors and built the company into $5+ million valuation. Managed business operations including finances, hiring, marketing, delivery logistics, customer service, scheduling, packaging, meal development, health code compliance, etc. Assembled and managed a high-performing delivery operations team, which delivered hundreds of meals per day in an average of 13 minutes after ordering. Grew the company by 63% monthly, managing daily food and delivery operations along the way. Helped grow social media following to a total of 6k+. Helped create and manage a customer experience which blew people away and produced a Net Promoter Score of ~84. Software and tools: Mailchimp, Facebook Ads, Tableau, Postgres, MySQL, Photoshop, WaveApps, Gusto, Google Drive, Intercom, Slack, MixPanel, OnFleet.
My goal with DemandFood was to give people access to healthy, wholesome food that was more convenient than fast food. Knowing that this was a completely new way of ordering food, my goal was to blow users away by creating a simple and easy ordering process, fast and seamless delivery, and the best tasting, highest quality food. I focused on exceeding user expectations to drive retention rates and word-of-mouth marketing.
Collaborated with food, delivery and mobile development teams to develop the best quality product and exceed user expectations. Maintained a high attention to detail and user experience. Developed and grew an easy ordering and delivery experience with priority given to make as much information available as possible to the user, such as nutritional facts and live a GPS map to track the delivery driver with SMS updates.
Experience with web and mobile UX. Focused on tailoring the design and function of apps to avoid obstacles and ensure logical flow. Examined different methods to find the best design and experience as there is never a single, right solution. Carefully listened to what users wanted. Familiarity with A/B testing, Mixpanel, Mailchimp, and Intercom.
Data is powerful. Made strategic business and user experience decisions by tracking and measuring key data, patterns and analytics. Focused on choosing the right metrics and using reliable data in order to ensure the highest integrity and quality analysis. Familiarity with Tableau, Intercom, Mixpanel, Postgres, and MySQL.
The single, highest priority was always placed on providing an amazing experience to users. Concentrated on understanding all of the user's problems and unmet needs. Always strove to go above and beyond expectations to provide “wow” experiences. Carefully listened to user feedback, quickly and thoroughly responded to inquires, and formed close relationships with key users.
Worked closely together with team members to build a positive environment of creative collaboration. Made it our company mission to embrace change and have a mindset of growth & learning. Fostered a culture of inclusivity and open-mindedness, actively encouraging and engaging all team members & users to give feedback and suggest solutions. Execution was focused on data-driven decisions.
